In this page we explain the process of transporting shipping containers in Cape Town.

We at RigRite specialize in shipping container transport, rigging and installation. Transported from depot with proof of release and delivery on site, we deliver shipping containers safely and reliably into their final application, whether it be a spaza shop, on site construction office, used in building projects or simply just as additional storage.

Shipping Container Transport from Cargo Ship to Your Site

If you wish to purchase a container through us, these shipping containers are stored at what is known as the depot. This is a storage facility large enough to store thousands of shipping containers stacked up several meters high, and large enough to allow for forklifts, crane trucks, and gantry bays to be able to drive and operate. These vehicles all serve to move empty shipping containers from the depot floor to the transport vehicles.

Fully loaded shipping containers arrive at the docks on cargo carriers from overseas. They are then removed using large gantry hoists and allocated for road freight transport. They are then loaded onto heavy freight liner trucks to be transported to their final destinations. They are then emptied and the empty shipping containers can then be transported by companies like us at Rigrite, where we transport, move and rig empty and converted shipping containers into their final positions. They are then stored on the private property of the owner of the container or stored at a major depots in the country.

Shipping Container Transport Depots in Cape Town

There are 3 major shipping container depots in Cape Town:

Release Form to Owners Property

From this point Depots are notified to release specific containers based on their container number and tags. We the transport company then issue them with a release form that the depot authorities then sign and permit the release of the container. The release form has a relevant reference number to the container that is to be transported and checks are made to ensure the correct container is removed.

The container is then moved from the depot using the crane on the back of our trucks or loaded via a gantry rig. The release form is then signed by our drivers and then, transported to the owners premises. Here a site inspection would of taken place before hand to layout the rigging procedures if any are applicable for the relocation.

Upon reaching the delivery site or owners premises the container is removed using the crane on board the truck and it is positioned into place by our team of experienced riggers, ensuring no damage is done to the container, the owners property and to themselves. Safety precautions are adhered to at all times. Hoisting a metal shipping container weighing over a few tons in mid air requires skill and adherence to all safety protocol to ensure everything is done carefully and correctly. This is what we specialize in.

Proof of Delivery and Final Placement

Delivery is completed when a final proof of delivery or delivery note is then signed by the owner. When the container needs to be moved again then we are contacted again to transport the container to its new location. Shipping containers are constantly on the move and so are our team of riggers and drivers, always ready to get the job done right.
